Jason Arthurs began his career as a documentarian by working his way through the ranks of photography's most ruthless training grounds: newspapers. By his third year as a working professional photojournalist, he had already been named twice as North Carolina's Photographer of the Year and been recruited by the state's largest newspapers. In 2006, a coworker who recognized his obsession with capturing very personal, storytelling moments, asked him to photograph his wedding on a farm in rural North Carolina. On that day, Jason captured an image of the groom launching a chicken into the air and fell in love with the idea of documenting the most important day in a couple's life and allowing their unique wedding story to be told in the most honest truthful way he knew how.
